COACH'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

“Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.”

What an incredible weekend at the WHS/NHS XC Classic! A huge thank you to all the parents and volunteers who helped make this event a success. From setup to cleanup, your support was essential in creating an outstanding race experience for the thousands of runners who participated. The NHS XC parents truly stepped up, ensuring everything ran smoothly and seamlessly.

We received so many positive comments throughout the weekend—athletes, coaches, and spectators alike were impressed with the event. While our coaches deserve credit for guiding our athletes, it’s also important to recognize the contributions of our NHS drumline, cheer squad, athletic directors, custodial staff, and administrators. Northwood’s presence at The Great Park was truly something to be proud of!

Team Performance Highlights:

The Timberwolves had a phenomenal showing at the 44th Annual XC Classic, with the coaching staff particularly impressed by the progress many of our athletes have made since last season. Trust in the training and the results will come!

On the girls’ side, runners continue to improve week after week. Special shout-outs to Braelynn Lynch and Maia Murthy, who both set personal bests for 3 miles on Friday evening. They are looking strong as they aim to solidify our varsity girls’ team in the upcoming weeks.

On the boys’ side, Nikolaj Waldron and Kavin Kumar also set personal bests at the Classic. Overall, 31 boys set PRs at the early-season invite—a truly impressive feat. And we can’t forget our star senior: Jude Alabed, who shattered his personal best with 15:19! He moved into the #3 all time NHS at the Great Park!

Athletes of the Week:

Our Athletes of the Week were Ryan Jo, Harris Dai and Zara Commissariat.

  • Ryan, a freshman, had an outstanding race in the boys' division, setting a personal record (PR). His raw talent is amazing as he has been battling some soreness and really hasn't started to fully train.  His future is bright!

  • Harris, a junior, achieved a personal best on the 3-mile course 15:59. Moving him into the #6th fastest Timberwolf time at the Great Park! He's quickly becoming a consistent force on the boy's team.

  • Zara, a freshman, running in her very first varsity race did not disappoint.  She ran her fastest time of 20:29 and is off to a terrific freshman campaign.

Keep up the great work, Ryan, Harris and Zara! We’re excited to see what the rest of the season holds for you three.

Looking Ahead:

As we head into our final week of September racing, the excitement continues to build for the Timberwolves. Our preseason finale will be at the Laguna HIlls Invite this Saturday. The weather is expected to be perfect, and the course is a great test for our fitness. Athletes who are invited to compete will self transport to Laguna Hills HS.  The competition at Laguna Hills will be fierce, so we’re expecting some great races. Be ready to give it your all and compete at a high level!  WEDNESDAY WE WILL MEET AT 6AM AT NHS FOR INTERVAL WORKOUT ON THE TRACK!

Let’s go, T-Wolves!

Have a good week,
